The Sabah Society was founded in 1960 by a group of enthusiasts eager to record and preserve interesting and important aspects of the history, culture and natural history of Sabah which might be lost in the increasing surge forward towards modernization.

The Sabah Society-Sandakan
In November, 2001, Datuk Adeline Leong, the then President of the Sandakan Municipal Council, introduced this society anew in Sandakan. The incumbent President of the Sabah Society, YM Tengku Datuk Dr Zainal Adlin was invited to speak on "The Heritage of Sabah" and a sub-committee was formed in January, 2002.
